Applied surfaces on structural steel members can be divided into two categories:

·  Coatings

Paint for structural steel usually falls into one of these ten families:

·  Bituminous
·  Chlorinated rubber
·  Epoxy  (this includes high build epoxy micaceous iron oxide)
·  Inorganic silicate
·  Urethane  (includes aliphatic polyurethane)
·  Alkyds
·  Oil base
·  Vinyl
·  Acrylated rubber
·  Inorganic zinc

Coatings are metallic in nature and are one of these three types:

·  Galvanized
·  Sprayed zinc
·  Sprayed aluminum
